Best Practices Guide

Whether you're raising support for missions, community work, or a personal cause, this guide will help you run a strong and successful campaign on HopeGives.

1. Clarify Your Goal and Timeline

  • Set a clear financial goal and explain exactly what the funds will be used for

  • Plan for about 30 to 40 days of active fundraising

  • Prepare your story and materials ahead of time so you can launch with confidence

2. Tell a Compelling Story

  • Start with why you are doing this. what moves you, what problem you're solving, and why it matters

  • Keep it authentic, heartfelt, and focused

  • Clearly explain how donations will make a difference

Use the Writing Assistant

  • HopeGives includes a built-in writing assistant to help you craft a clear and powerful story
  • Let it guide you through the process of explaining your mission, needs, and impact

3. Show the Impact

  • Be specific: “$25 buys a backpack,” “$100 covers one week of housing,” etc.

  • When people see how their gift helps, they’re more likely to give and share

4. Upload a Personal Video

  • Campaigns with video consistently raise more money

  • A short video (1 to 2 minutes) where you introduce yourself, share your heart, and explain what you're fundraising for builds trust and connection

  • Note: You must upload a cover photo and then you can add a video as an additional resource.

5. Keep it Personal

  • Use photos and stories from your real life

  • Let people see who you are and why this campaign matters

  • Avoid generic language—let your voice shine through

 6. Post Regular Updates

  • Updates are a key part of building trust and momentum

  • HopeGives sends your updates directly to your donor base via email, helping keep supporters engaged

  • Use updates to share progress, photos, answered prayers, or new needs

7. Promote Your Campaign

  • Share your campaign with friends, family, churches, and social media followers

  • Use the HopeGives tools to make sharing easy

  • Don’t be afraid to ask—people want to help when they understand the need

8. Finish Strong

  • As your campaign nears the end, keep sharing updates and reminding people to give

  • Use the final days to rally support and celebrate the progress you've made

9. After the Campaign

  • Say thank you

  • Share how the funds were used

  • Let donors know the impact they made
