Getting started with your missionary fundraising is easy. Just follow these steps:
Step 1: Create a HopeGives Account
We encourage you to use your organization or denomination-issued email address to sign up at HopeGives.com. This helps confirm your affiliation and speeds up the verification process.
Step 2: Become a Verified Missionary
To receive donations through your organization and increase trust with donors, complete the verification process:
-
Go to Account > Your Organizations
-
Click Become a Verified Missionary
-
Select your affiliated organization
-
Fill out the required information
- Select if you would like to "Mask" your name if serving in a sensitive region
-
Submit your request for review
Your organization will be notified, and you'll receive an update once your status is verified.
Step 3: Create a Hope Campaign
Once your account is verified, you can create campaigns to share your mission:
-
Campaign Name: Choose a clear, meaningful name
-
Goal Amount: Set a realistic financial target
-
Description: Explain the purpose and how funds will be used
-
Photos: Add images that help donors connect to your story
See Tips article for help creating a successful campaign.
Step 4: Share with Your Community
-
Post on social media
-
Email your network of supporters
-
Share your campaign link directly or via QR code
- Update regularly to keep people connected and engaged
Step 5: Collect the Funds
Once your campaign is live and donations begin coming in, you can initiate a transfer from your HopeGives dashboard to your connected PayPal account.
However, some organizations may choose to collect the funds directly from missionary campaigns and distribute them through their existing internal channels. If this is the case:
-
You will not manage the funds yourself—your organization will handle the collection and distribution
-
Make sure you confirm this process with your organization so you know how funds will be routed
-
Ensure your campaign includes the correct Project ID (if required) so your organization can track and allocate donations properly
If you're unsure how your organization handles payouts, reach out to your administrator for guidance before launching your campaign.
Project ID is a unique identifier that users add to their campaigns. Some organizations will use this as a tracking number to identify where donated funds should be distributed.
