      How to Make a Donation

      Thanks for choosing to support a HopeGives campaign. Your generosity makes a meaningful difference for those in need. Below, we’ve outlined the steps and options to ensure a smooth donation process.

      How to Make a Donation

      You don’t need to create an account to donate on HopeGives. However, if you have an account and are signed in, you can easily track and manage your donations.

      Follow these steps to donate:

      1. Find the campaign you wish to support and select “Donate”.

      2. Enter the amount you’d like to donate and adjust the optional tip.*

      3. Select payment option and provide Payment details.

      4. Confirm your donation and optional tip amount, then click “Pay”. A confirmation receipt will be sent to your email.

      *Some campaigns may offer an option for recurring donations. If you see this option, you can set up automatic donations.

      Now that you've donated, you can further support the campaign by:

      • Sharing the campaign: Spreading the word helps raise more funds. Select one of the sharing options provided.

      • Leave words of support: Your message will appear publicly on the campaign page under the Wall of Hope.

      Tipping Options

      HopeGives is free for campaign organizers who are individuals, and tips help keep the platform running. When making a donation, you can choose to leave an optional tip to support HopeGives. You can adjust the tip amount or set it to 0 if you prefer not to tip. 

      This optional tip does not go to the organizer of the campaign.

      Donating in a Different Currency

      HopeGives only allows fundraisers to raise money within the United States. However, international donors can still give using their local currency, depending on PayPal’s supported currencies and your bank’s policies.

      All donation amounts are displayed in U.S. dollars. PayPal will convert the donation from your local currency using its current exchange rate, which includes a small conversion fee (typically around 3 to 4 percent above the base rate). An additional international transaction fee of 1.5 percent may also apply.

      HopeGives does not charge any additional fees for currency conversion, but your bank or card provider may apply their own charges. If you have questions about those, please contact your financial institution.

      Trouble Making a Donation

      If you encounter issues while donating, try the following steps:

      • Ensure that your card details and email address are entered correctly.

      • Double-check that your name matches exactly as it appears on your payment method.

      • Clear your browser’s cache and cookies, try using a private browser, or switch to a different device.

      • Use an alternative payment method or contact your bank to ensure there are sufficient funds and no blocks on the transaction.

      • If multiple donation attempts fail within a short period, wait 24 hours and try again.
