How to Record an Offline Donation
What is an Offline Donation?
-
Offline donations are gifts that were received outside of the HopeGives platform—for example, cash, checks, or other direct contributions.
-
Adding an offline donation allows you to display the full amount your campaign has raised, both online and offline.
These donations are for display purposes only and do not process any funds through HopeGives.
How to Add an Offline Donation
- Go to your campaign page.
Make sure you’re logged in to your HopeGives account. - Select “Add Offline Donation.”
You’ll find this button at the top of your campaign page, next to “Edit Campaign.” - Fill out the form.
- Donation Amount: Enter the total amount received.
- Donor Name: Add the name of the person or organization.
(Required) - Email (Optional): If you’d like to keep record of who gave, you can include their email.
- Anonymous Donation: Toggle this option if the donor prefers to remain anonymous on your public campaign page.
- Review the note.
Before saving, check the box confirming you understand that offline donations are for display only. They will show on your public campaign page. - They will not be:
- Included in campaign reports
- Sent to your organization
- Tracked or confirmed by HopeGives
- Trigger a confirmation email to the donor
- Click “Add Donation.”
Once added, your campaign total will update to reflect both online and offline gifts.
Example
If your campaign has raised $9,000 online and you receive a $1,000 check, adding it as an offline donation will update your total to $10,000 raised—but HopeGives will only process the online funds.
Important Notes
- Offline donations are purely informational and do not move funds through the platform.
- HopeGives does not send receipts, confirmation emails, or payout for these donations.
- If you’d like to acknowledge offline donors, you’ll need to do so manually outside of HopeGives.
Why Add Offline Donations?
